I Think My Computer Got Hacked

I Think My Computer Got Hacked

TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION

Trust your instincts.
If you feel like you may have been hacked follow these four steps immediately. False reports cause very little harm compared to breached data.
Step 1: Turn off computer. Press and hold the on-off button until you are sure the hard drive is off. If you are unsure, unplug the device from the wall*.
Step 2: Change Email Password. Using a different computer, log in to your email account and change the password. You will need un-compromised access to your email to change TriageLogic and other passwords. If you don't have an un-compromised computer, skip to Step 3.
Step 3: Change TriageLogic Password. Using your mobile phone or an un-compromised computer, perform a password reset at the TriageLogic Login page.  Use your mobile phone for verification step.
Step 4: Report the Incident. Once you have secured your email account and TriageLogic Account, report the incident to your charge nurse, who will report it to IT via a 911 ticket. Try to make a note of the time of the incident. It is very important to report every incident, there is only consequence when you do not report an issue. Our security team needs to track these trends to protect everyone and all PHI stored.

FOLLOW UP FOR COMPLIANCE
Step 5: Complete a Full Incident Report. At the end of your shift or as soon as is possible, submit all information regarding the incident to supervisor.
Step 6: Submit Report to HIPAA Portal. A TriageLogic Administrator will review and submit the incident report to the HIPAA Compliance Portal site.
